CNTM Week 4 – Hopefuls raise the drama stakes (November 24, 2015)

We’re now in the fourth episode of Caribbean’s Next Top Model 2015, and it’s clear who’s emerging as the clear leaders in the fashion stakes as well as the drama stakes.

Richard Young said generally he didn’t think the girls understood what their purpose as a model was. “The model is an intermediary between the audience, the onlooker and the lens, the producer, the designer and the creative director to tell a story, to signal something and they have to constantly know that, because they’re constantly falling out of that thought all the time.”

At the end of last week’s episode where two girls were sent home, everyone was on their toes.

Lia (T&T), who won the last challenge, said it was a reality check, especially as the eliminated girls were both her roommates… which is quite a coincidence, yes? Ayanna (St. Lucia) admitted to being astonished and hurt. Nicoya (Antigua and Barbuda), Sydney (Cayman Islands) and Mackella (Jamaica) also said they were surprised but maybe it was for the best.
Yugge (St. Vincent & the Grenadines) was set on again by the girls in the house, especially given her public setdown by host Wendy Fitzwilliam for playing to the camera and creating drama. It came as a surprise when she broke into tears talking about… her natural hair, of all things? Mackella let the cat out of the bag when she said Yugge was still performing for the cameras. And during yet another quarrel, Yugge actually pushed back on the camera!!
This week’s teach/challenge involved the girls embodying different personalities through their runway walk, aka “runway charades” with judge Richard Young. Yugge tied for the win with Nicoya, with both of them winning 10 extra frames each in the photoshoot challenge. Surprisingly, the rest of the models seemed to agree with the decision, grudgingly in some cases.
Next up was the much-anticipated nude photoshoot challenge, with the girls in pasties and thongs and covered in gold paint. Some girls were more nervous than others, worrying about what their (boy)friends and family would think, while others worried about the girls watching them.

Then, just before judging, Nicoya made a crack about needing to eat because she didn’t want to almost faint like Kittisha (Grenada) had done the previous week, saying she didn’t mean it in a bad way. Ayanna repeated the sentiment for Kittisha to hear, calling it ‘tough love.’ Kittisha was hurt because as she said “I don’t like when people talk about my size. It’s not my fault I’m skinny.” Yugge and Linda (Puerto Rico) jumped to Kittisha’s defense, saying it’s not cool to make jokes about anorexia and topics like size that people might be sensitive about (good on them!)
On to judging, where most of the models had good reviews for their photos. The winner was Sydney, followed by Ayanna, Nicoya, Linda, Lia (T&T), Yugge and Kittisha. Mackella and Krissle (T&T) were up for elimination and Wendy said they weren’t expressing their potential. In the end, Krissle went home and Mackella remained in the running to be Caribbean’s Next Top Model.
Stay tuned for next week’s episode where Ayanna seems to be the one getting on people’s nerves and the girls do a swimsuit photoshoot!
