The Little Carib Theatre’s upcoming Christmas concert, Christmas at the Carib, on December 8, is the venue’s last big fundraising concert for the year. Proceeds go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the theatre.
The concert will feature Soca Parang Queen Marcia Miranda, guitarist Stefan Roach and Friends, Johanna and Johann Chuckaree on piano and pan respectively and the St. Monica’s Youth Choir. The fundraiser will offer a variety of genres of seasonal music, from pan and Parang to Yuletide favourites and choral music.
Social media and marketing manager Kara Martin said the lineup is composed of some of the most well received acts that have performed at the Little Carib this year, and audiences can look forward to a mix of style and genres. “Marcia Miranda is the Queen of Parang, and we couldn’t think of anyone better to headline the concert. She’ll be singing her new song Solamente and hosting a singalong. Her first live concert took place at the Little Carib in 2016, and it was sold out, so we’re hoping the same thing happens here. Stefan Roach himself is a dynamic classical guitarist but he also dabbles in parang music and flamenco and other Spanish styles of music, so he’ll probably do a mix of songs and styles. Johann and Johanna will do Christmas-related music as well, they have not given me a repertoire, and then we have St. Monica’s Youth Choir coming in, so they will be doing choral music related to the season.”
Miranda said “That show was an awesome experience and I’ve often thought about having another concert at the venue. The intimacy of The Carib allowed me to truly connect and interact with my audience. It was perfect and I expect the same togetherness and coming together of artiste and audience this time around. Johanna Chuckaree was on stage with me at that concert and I’m looking forward to working with her again.”
Martin said patrons should attend the concert to contribute to the continued upkeep and maintenance of one of Woodbrook, and Trinidad’s, longest-running and most important institutions for dance and the creative arts, as well as other reasons. “If you’re a fan of the Carib and you want to see us keep going in the New Year, this is an essential fundraiser for us. Also Marcia Miranda just brings out the Christmas spirit in people, so if you want to get more of that, then come out and have a good time. Additionally if you want a concert that is not just one style of music but more of a variety show, that’s another good reason to come and see the show. The ticket includes light seasonal refreshments, so you’ll get to mingle a little bit and enjoy some seasonal food and drink too.”
The show begins at 6:30 pm. Tickets cost $250. For reservations and further information, call 622 4644, 463 5059 or 475 0717.
