Head Sisters to hold recital (May 14, 2017)

Closing Doors: The Final Recital is the final year concert put on by sisters LeAndra and Tylah Head as they complete their music degree at UTT. They describe the free recital, which is one of the final requirements to complete the degree, as the grand finale to their time at the University.

The sisters, who have been training as vocalists, will be performing a mix of Western Classical and Caribbean contemporary music. The program will include pieces from operas by Verdi, Mozart and Puccini, as well as a variety of Caribbean songs by Bob Marley, Tessanne Chin, and Shadow. The sisters say they will be staying true to the singing style of the original Caribbean performers. They will be accompanied by fellow students, including Michael (Ming) Low Chew Tung, as well as resident pianist Eunmi Choi.
The sisters say patrons will get a chance to see what the University has to offer. “There’s always been so much negativity around the place and the institution but it’s actually a good program. It produces and helps to develop a lot of good talent and we just want people to see that. We also want to show what we’ve learned, because we’ve learned a lot and what the school has done, plus it’s always good to support the Arts.”
They say they are both really happy to be completing the program as they’ve had a lot of ups and downs, but made it through due to the support of family, friends and their voice teacher. “We see the final performance as the beginning of things to come, which is why the recital is called “Closing Doors.” It’s like we’re closing one door to open another.”
The recital takes place on May 20 at 6pm at NAPA Theatre 1, Keate Street Entrance.
