La Souce Environmental Designs for their upcoming Father’s Day Landscaping Workshop offers something different and unexpected.
Manager Indira Jagoo-Teloka said by offering this workshop, the company “is targeting all the fathers, and persons who are like fathers, who are Do-it-Yourself (DIY) enthusiasts and who would like to start landscaping their property. It is also an opportunity for fathers of all ages and their children, or grandfathers and grandchildren, to bond and spend quality time with each other while learning something new together.”
She said the topics to be covered include the elements of landscaping, site planning and preparation, types and mixing of soils, garden styles, drainage, irrigation, garden plants, planting methods, infrastructure, landscaping equipment, weeds and pest control, and lawn care and maintenance, among others. “When we plan our workshops we put ourselves in the minds of our target audience and make a list of all the things we think they wouldn’t know or would like to know in advance in order to execute their projects. We also base the topics for each workshop on questions we’ve been asked in the past. We emphasize however that they will not learn everything that is required in only one day, but they will have gained enough knowledge to start their projects at home. We are also always just a phone call, email or Whatsapp message away if they have any questions, as all workshop participants become part of our La Souce family and have access to our network of suppliers and stakeholders in the landscaping and gardening fields.
Jagoo-Teloka said participants will be exposed to a variety of hands-on and practical demonstrations as well as theoretical information. “Past workshop participants have often said they have felt overwhelmed by the amount of information they receive in that space of time. However, we know it can be boring listening to someone talk all day, so during the practical demonstrations, participants are free to jump in and literally get their hands dirty in a very informal, relaxed and intimate setting. The workshop will be held at the private residence of one of our past participants and attendees are free to ask questions throughout the day and mix, mingle and network with other participants.”
The workshop content will be delivered by owner and landscaper, Carlson Teloka. He has gathered over ten years experience landscaping various properties, as well as maintaining estates. Taking his inspiration from the natural surroundings of the “La Souce” estate on which he currently resides, Teloka designs, builds and installs one-of-a-kind water features to meet his clients’ needs.
Jagoo-Teloka said offering workshops like this are important for increasing awareness of proper practices, setting standards for proper landscaping procedures and correct way of doing these activities, creating a bonding experience between families, and increasing wellness by creating green spaces.
The $500 cost of the workshop covers tuition, all the stationery and landscaping materials, and light refreshments. The workshop will be held on June 8 or 9. Interested persons can email lasouceworkshops@gmail.com, call 303-1423 or 685-3018 and go to http://www.lasoucett.com.
