New dinner theatre concept unveils (May 31, 2019)

Magie, poetry and food are the hallmarks of Saucery – Magic and a Meal, a new dinner theatre concept being spearheaded by local magician and spoken-word artist Johnathan “Jaster the Reactionist” Pierre. The first event will take place on July 4, at Woodford Cafe, Price Plaza, Chaguanas.,
The show will feature four young magicians, as well as two spoken word artistes and three comedians. In addition to Pierre, Julio Jairamsingh, Alejandro Andalcio and Tristan Cain will be performing various styles of magic tricks. Plerre said: “1 perform card magic, which includes card levitation, mind reading, teleportation, etc. I also perform magic that involves objects vanishing, penetrating and being produced out of thin air or strange places. The other three magicians are very talented and each has a different style. We felt like it was important to showcase what we can do to expand awareness of our skills.”

Saying that he was drawn to magic at a young age after seeing it on the television, Piere sald: “1 was completely amazed, curious and interested in what 1 had seen. From the same show 1 learnt a rubber band magic trick. Eagerly I showed my family and friends and fell in love with the art. Not long afterwards I was able to perform more advanced magle tricks and develop my own style and ideas behind it.”
Other performers will include First Citizens National Poetry Slam finalist Kyle Hernandez, Davon Musgrave and comedians Rhea-Simone “Simmy the Trinl” Auguste, Gabriel Brijmohan and Jerome Richardson.

Pierre said he came up with the Saucery concept after looking at the avallable entertainment opcions for patrons in T&T. “My partner, Simmi the Trini, does regular comedy shows,” sald Pierre, “and we were chatting about what would work for my brand. Since 1 do magic and spoken word poetry, we came up with the name Saucery as a play on the word sorcery, especially as the event concept is linked to dining and restaurants with a full meal with an appetiser and dessert to share, included in the VIP ticket price.

“We wanted to give people an incredible dining experience while enjoying a blend of amazing live entertainment. We would like to do Saucery at different restaurants, ensuring that patrons get dining variety and different performances. We’re currently discussing options with sushi places, fine dining spaces and high- end restaurants for future shows.”

Pierre said audiences should come to the show because “they’re getting a different entertainment package, as magic isn’t the most common art form in this country and we offer something different from the ordinary experience. I hope they’ll go away with an appreciation for different styles and approaches to magie as entertainment for adults.”

Tickets include either a margarita or tequila shots for regular patrons and VIP patrons get a complete meal with an appetiser and dessert to share.
Regular tickets are $150 and VIP tickets are $400. For more information, please check= Facebook com/JasterMagic or call 774-3752. (Pauls Lindo)
